Getting Around

By Air
Douala and Yaounde are connected by regular flights but the connection with interior cities is not often. The fares are very affordable but schedules must be checked well ahead of departure.

By Road
Cameroon recently unveiled a fleet of new modern luxury buses which travel between Yaounde and Douala to all major cities. Services may be suspended during the rainy season. Mini buses ply within the cities and run according to a timetable in most places. Share taxis run according to fixed rates and can be hailed on the streets. Hiring a car is expensive and possible only in Yaounde, Douala and Kribi. Rates are prohibitive but fuel prices are low in Cameroon.

Driving in the country is on the right side and an International Driving Permit is recommended. Car thefts, mugging and carjacking are not unheard of - it is suggested you check on the latest security situation before attempting to drive between cities. Driving at night is not recommended. Roads between the major cities are paved but ill-maintained elsewhere.

By Train
Though the trains are slow, they are still quicker than the buses. Cameroon Railways connect Yaounde to most of the major cities across the country.
