Culture & Crafts
Cameroon’s culture revolves around its Anglo-French past to a great extent. The League of Nations had divided Cameroon between the British and the French after World War I. The French had 80% of the territory, which was mostly in central Cameroon, and the British had 20% to the north and south.
Even though the colonial hangover remains, the unifying force of Cameroon is its traditional culture, predominantly music. Makossa is one of Africa’s most popular dance rhythms and a favourite in discothèques, clubs and pubs. Bikutsi is the dance music of the Ewonde.
