Economy
Burkina Faso has an economy that is predominantly agrarian and 90% of the people are involved in agriculture. Approximately half of the country's income comes from agriculture. When the land is affected by drought, subsistence agriculture helps survival and cash crops of cotton, groundnuts, sesame and shea-nuts continue to grow at this time bringing in valuable foreign exchange. Imports outweigh exports and France is the major trading partner. Neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire is also one of Burkina Faso's trade partners. The country's economy is heavily dependent on foreign aid particularly from France and the European Union.
