Niamey -> Attractions

Attractions

The main attractions in Niamey include the National Museum in downtown Niamey. It is hard to miss with its brilliant blue and white buildings. It houses exhibits on Nigerian history and culture, as well as a small zoo. There is also an artisan area where you can watch people work on traditional crafts and buy their products. The Grand Mosque is another must see. It was built with money from Libya's Muamar Qaddafi.

Niamey has interesting local music though it is hard to find such music played for the public. Visitors can catch a glimpse of the music at the French Cultural Centre, across the street from the Musee.

American School of Niamey and Community Centre next to the US Embassy also allows visitors. Visitors can buy a day pass for a reasonable fee and will be able to use the pool and other equipment on the grounds. There is also a pleasant shaded area next to the pool where the buvette is located. Visitors can slake their cravings for hamburgers, milkshakes, nachos, and even Dr. Pepper or Root Beer.
